Could someone please confirm that a board designed for RT1176/RT1175 could instead use an RT1166/RT1165 as long as firmware only uses the resources only available on the RT116x part?

If so, let me know if this is spelled out in a document or video somewhere that I've overlooked on NXP's website.

Thank you for your interest in the NXP MIMXRT Product, I would like to provide service for you.
RT116X is pin to pin compatible to the RT117X.
So, to the RT1176/RT1175 board can use the RT1166/RT1165, but your related application should use the RT116X code.
As you know, RT117x has more function than the RT116X, even the core frequence also higher than RT116X.
About the document, you an refer to your used chip reference manual the datasheet.
About the code, you can use the SDK:

Wish it helps you!
If you still have questions, please kindly let me know.
