Using 8MP-evk, Is it possible to output on hdmi (internal) a splash screen for 5 seconds at 1024x768 ?

We don't provide i.MX8MP HDMI driver in Uboot, so you can't realize it with default BSP.
Any plans to provide HDMI and Native LVDS drivers in UBOOT?

I read a few other posts about using a 8MN patch but I now believe those examples were using the mipi with external hdmi phy.

Correct, most customer are using MIPI-HDMI / LVDS-HDMI bridge.
