ENET_TCCR0 not giving timer capture

Hi,
I want to use the hardware timestamps to sync my 1588 clock with the 1pps clock from the gps. I am trying to get the hardware timestamps of 1588. I am using ENET1_EVENT0_IN. I configured the pinmux to the ALT4 function of EVENT0_IN. I configured the TCSR0 register for input capture. As far as I understand from the reference manual, when I read the ENET_TCCR0 register it should give me the timer timestamp right ? Or is there something I am missing ?

The 1 pps signal is also connected with the ENET1_EVENT0_IN and is working perfectly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
