Compatibility of RC523 with MUAES Card

Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a project that involves using NXP's RC523 RFID reader chip. I plan to use it in conjunction with MUAES (MIFARE Ultralight AES) cards, but I'm uncertain about the compatibility, especially regarding AES encryption.

From my understanding, the RC523 supports the ISO/IEC 14443 A protocol, which is also the standard for MUAES cards. However, I’ve read that the RC523 primarily supports Crypto1 encryption and doesn’t directly handle AES encryption.

I would like to clarify the following:

  1. Can the RC523 communicate with MUAES cards?
  2. If so, does the AES encryption need to be handled externally via an MCU or another security module?
  3. Are there any example codes or documentation available that could guide me through this implementation?

I would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance on this matter.

Thank you!

Hello @jf555

For MFRC523, there are not any examples. It's recommended that you can use CLRC663, and there is a dedicated example for MIFARE PLUS.

Hello @jf555

For CLRC663, you can download SW672315, there is an example for mifare plus, but which is security file, and need an NDA to get the download permission.
