Debugging DPM/LSM Projects without USB NEXUS MULTILINK?

I've been using an MPC5643L product for evaluation. While trying to familiarize myself with it I found a Targeting Micro-controllers pdf which included this section:

My question is, do I have to purchase this $400 interface in order to debug this evaluation product, or am I misunderstanding this text?

Hello,

could you please write me, which board are you using with MPC5643L? If you want to program/debug the microcontroller and you have USB TRK board, you do not need any external JTAG interface.

If you use another evaluation board without USB and you want to debug/program the microcontroller, you must have external JTAG debug probe.

Please let me know.

It is a USB TRK board, so I guess I'm good to go.
