Is there ever going to be support for Windows 7 64-bit? It is becoming a problem because our IT department is stopping support for XP. Any news on this?
Hi,
CodeWarrior for DSC V8.3 was designed for XP/Vista 32 bit OS.
We don't have a version supporting Windows 7.
The next version is planned for end 2011.
DSC architecture will be integrated in CodeWarrior for MCU in the MCU10.2 release.
This version will support:
Microsoft® Windows XP 32/64-bit (Business)
Microsoft® Windows Vista 32/64-bit (Business and Home Premium)
Microsoft® Windows 7 32/64-bit (Professional and Home Premium)
Linux Red Hat Enterprise Edition 5.2 32-bit
I know some customers have already installed DSC tool on windows 7 but some of them (5% probably) were not able to run CodeWarrior under windows 7.

- Run Windows 7 in Windows XP SP3 mode. Forward the USB ports to the XP VM.
Disable Desktop Composition:
- Right click on ide.exe and select "Properties"
- Click on the "Compatibility" tab
- In the "Settings" area select "Disable Desktop Composition"

I got a feedback from a customer ...

Now it runs relatively well, once I pass the initial opening and compiling phases of the project..
So afterwards, IDE seems to be able to communicate with the USB-TAP well enough, that I see no apparent problems running the “time-critical” project we have on the target board. (Like V22bis modem, etc.)..
The sections where CW8.3 seem to have problems with Windows 7 is when opening and closing the projects/files.. It is considerably slow.. But eventually it works.. As I said, this is better than not having CW at all..
This is what I was able to find out by trial and error, in order to get the CW8.3 running on Windows 7;
- Right click IDE.exe in the \bin folder.
- Select “Properties”
- Select “Compatibility”
- Select “Change settings for all users”
- Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for”
- Select “Windows Vista” from pull down menu
- Select “Disable visual themes” & “Disable desktop composition” &” Disable display scaling on high DPI settings”.
- Do NOT select “Run in 256 colors” & “Run in 640x480 screen resolution”.
Hit OK

I think you could run the build tool chain without problem under Windows 7.
the main issue is with USBtap ...
The quick solution should be to keep a PC on windows XP with the USBTap and to configure your Windows 7 CCS in remote.
By this way your Windows 7 could use the USBtap installed on XP.
Hope this will help you.
