You are using CodeWarrior for HC08. Right?
Look at {Install}\Help\PDF\Compiler_HC08.pdf.
Chapter "ANSI-C Front End", section "Implementation Features" -> Translation Limitations" describes all the internal limitation of the compiler.
In table 8.4 I could find
"Number of initial characters in an internal identifier or macro name 32,767".
