Not seeing Android Logo with imx6dl custom with android_p9.0.0_2.2.0

Hi NXP,

I am using a android_p9.0.0_2.2.0 pre-built image, but I rebuilt the kernel + device tree, uboot for our custom board. The custom board is currently using kernel 4.9.11 Debian9. The code is porting from kernel 4.9.11. The custom board has 2 display 1368x768 and 800x480. 

When bootup, I can see 1 penguin and debug message dump to the display. The debug message is the same as the one in COM 1 port. 

I attach ps command, dmesg  and uboot log for your reference.

Hi NXP,

 

I attached the i2c and pmic schematic. The pmic is using i2c4 which is connected to the imx6dl, which is used to program the pmic using external tool.

Hi @weidong_sun and @Zhiming_Liu ,

The pmic in our custom board is not  controllable by imx6. The i2c4 is used to program the PMIC via external tool. 

Do you have a workaround so that without PMIC being controlled by imx6, the Android will bootup correctly ? For example, how to provide read and set voltage example for GPU/VPU so that it can run properly.

Hi,

When I build kernel alone, I add a config to Kconfig and use make menuconfig to select the config so that to see it .config.

May I know how to do add a config item in kernel if I am build the entire system ?

Hi Zhiming,

I have rebuilt the system without modification, but burning to my board cause uboot cannot start up. So I burned my  uboot image(using correct ddr file, some modifications to bypass regulator and SD card detection that I built last time) and can boot up into uboot. 

Then kernel stuck at mount system and vendor due to sd card slot in device tree is not the same as my board. My board  need 2194. So I converted dtbo.img -> dtb -> dts, then I updated the dts. Then I converted it back to dtbo.img and flash to my sd card. Can see mounting but see reboot caused by recovery. No actual reboot due to watchdog is not correct.

I re-used device tree for my board that use Debian and added in firmware node { and then I flashed in to the sd card, then see reboot caused by recovery and got reboot because this is with correct watchdog.

I have attached the log.

Please advise, why there is recovery reboot.

- this cause recovery reboot. This is the one from pre-built image, I think it is added to boot.img

if I clear the bootargs, there is no recovery reboot but I will have the errors that you see in the log. And there is no Android logo.

Hi Zhiming,

After I did setenv bootargs console=ttymxc0,115200 init=/init so that not to use the command line included in the boot.img, the machine can boot up to login prompt.

Your IIC have some problems and it can not read messages from PMIC and you can try wit my two suggestions below.

1.In software, see your dts file and check if you use default i2c pin mux in other dts node.You mentinoned that you changed your dts. It may cause the iic was set incorretcly so can not work with PMIC.You can use common gpio to simulate iic function test your board.

2.In hardware,you can check if your iic io have Pull-up resistors in your Schematic diagram and decrease the iic speed to 10k use logic analyzer  to see the IIC waveform.

Hi Zhiming, 

My board does not use the same pmic. The pmic is not part of device tree as the voltage is fixed. My board only has our own i2c devices such as external RTC chip. I defined this in device tree and also add in the driver. 

There is no problem when running debian but the kernel config has removed almost all the unnecessary devices. However for the Android, I have not done the clean up.

What is your suggestion ?

Hi Zhiming,

The uboot is working fine now because I have ported our working uboot that used in my board(product) currently running debian. The uboot will bypass pmic.

Can I send you my device tree, we only use these i2C devices ? I can also remove these error devices  from config.

My board is using i2c0, this is an external RTC chip. Not I did not see the i2c error. 

This boot.img is not integrated with the display stuffs, so cannot see anything on display.

Please help to take a look. Meanwhile, I will integrate the display stuff and check.

May I know why adding "androidboot.hardware" in command line will cause recovery reboot. ?

I have integrated the display stuff, but I can only see penguin logo, but not android logo, also no menu.
