how to set the status of a question?

I'm new to this forum.  How does the status of my question get changed to "assumed answered", and how can I change it back so that the question can continue to be addressed?  Does this somehow affect people's points or other rewards and standings?   What is the polite way to keep the question alive?

Your question will be changed to assumed answer whenever you have a response to your question and you don't mark it as correct or helpful or don't answer back at all in a certain amount of time.

The correct way to post your question is first of all looking for the correct place to post it, that way the experts on the product you are going to ask about will be aware of your question.

Posting a question will grant you 5 points.

Replying to a question will grant you 1 point

If your question is marked as helpful you will get 2 points

Whenever you mark an answer as correct, the person who answered will get 4 points

@ Mentioning people will grant you 1 point.
