What is setting "Assumed Answered" and how do I revert it?

I've got a thread here:

https://community.freescale.com/thread/355199

It is showing "Assumed Answered" under the Subject.

What set that, and how do I clear that "Assumption"?

Does the Forum Software assume a question is resolved just because someone else posted to the thread? Does it do this if the poster is a Freescale Employee?

Tom

(Edit to see if Editing the original post clears the "Assumed Answered... No, that doesn't fix it and there's nothing under "Edit" or "Tag" or anything else to do that).

> Hi Tom, if the question you asked was not solved you can ask for further clarification.

Thanks you, I've done that. There hasn't been any response since it was marked "Assumed Answered". I don't know how your system works, but I can guess. New "Unanswered" items end up on a list for Freescale support staff to look at. "Answered" ones are effectively "closed". If all of us did the right thing and dutifully marked our answered questions as "Answered", it would all work fine, but most people are lazy and don't do that last step. That's why you have the "Assumed Answered" step, to clear out the queue.

In order to have it looked at again I suspect need to have that "Assumed Answered" tag removed. I can think of three ways do that:

  1. As the person who posed the question, I should have the authority to "untag" the thread,
  2. I can post in this forum (Using Freescale Community") requesting that it be untagged,
  3. I post a new message (with the same content and question - a duplicate) to try and get another response.

Currently the only option the system seems to be offering me is (3) above. That's not a good option.

Tom

I can't see how.

My original question on this thread was "How do I revert it?".

That question has NOT been answered, but possibly ironically (although "ironically" is far too happy a term), THIS post has been marked "Assumed Answered".

I can't find any way on this page to get it unmarked.

I've tried "Editing" the original post and there's nothing there to do this.

So it is 3 years and 3 months since my original post, and there's been no progress except for a few manual un-marks of a few other threads.

So it looks like the only way to get a post unmarked is to post in this thread asking for it to be unmarked.

Except that since this thread is now marked "Assumed Answered" it probably won't get read by the people who do that.

Can I get THIS one manually unmarked please?

I notice you have an "Assumed Answered" thread here that has certainly NOT been answered to your satisfaction:

about M4 sw resets through SRC_M4RCR

With the help of Jive/Aurea technical support, I've found how to revert the Assumed Answered state: as author, you simply need to mark as correct an answer and then remove that immediately. The thread is reset to Unanswered and it's update date is updated so it gets put on top of the forum's list. :smileyhappy:

Agree... I don't understand why NXP doesn't give users this right. I've talked directly to Jive Software about this issue since I thought maybe its the Jive engine that doesn't allow it. However, I was told NXP does not directly use Jive, but a customisation of the engine made by a customer of Jive Software. Not sure if NXP is intentionally blocking this feature or if they have not pushed their Jive supplier to add the feature to the engine.

Maybe NXP doesn't want to increase the volume of unanswered questions...

Hi Diana,

I totally agree that it would be useful to be able to mark a question as "not yet solved".

Could you also mark my thread as unsolved? :smileyhappy:

I too would like NXP to allow us to remove the "Assumed Answered" tag when we feel it has not been fully answered. I would allow support engineers to concentrate on Unresolved questions rather than looking also to Assumed Answered ones. Of course, only the author of a discussion would be allowed to do that. This would help enhancing users satisfaction. Please consider that feature!

Thanks, I guess. But it took over two years and six months for that to happen.

Hi Tom, if the question you asked was not solved you can ask for further clarification.

Sorry but only a specific usergroup is allowed to tag threads as Assumed, you can not clear such tag.
