Dear all,
I know MPXV5100 only works with positive pressure, however I would like to know what if a depressure is applied. Does the membrane break out? If yes, what is the critical pressure?
Thanks for your help.
Nicolas.
You are correct, because in a gauge pressure sensor, P2 is open to the ambient (1 atm, always). If P1 is negative pressure (less than 1 atm) or vacuum, then P2 > P1, which breaks the condition to keep the integrity of the sensor. If you want to measure negative pressure, my advice would be to get a differential pressure sensor.

Hi Nicolas,
The MPX5100DP will not be damaged as long as the pressure in port one is greater than pressure in port two (P1>P2). Hence if you apply depressure, the device will be fine, as long this pressure is applied to the Port 2.
