How does DMA works in S32K3

We are working on a Battery management project which interfaces between S32K312 micro MC33665 to MC33774 BCC. Planning to implement SPI/TPL drivers using available NXP RTD's with system DMA. 

Would like to know the basics of how DMA works and if there is an application note and sample software project available to kick start our software development.
