Hello,

as in high speed digital the world is talking about insrtion loss as most imporant figure of merit i was searching for a loss budget calculation for PTN38007.

Is there number for insertion loss that PTN38007 can compensate?

I have not found any Design guide so far and  the datasheet does not provide this number..

thanks a lot

HI Tomas, thanks a lot .. sorry, I missed this table (today was too busy    )

I have to admit, I would have been not sure if i really can take peaking Gain 1:1 as correction for channel insertion loss.

but anyhow with the comment "not recommended for new designs" ... does nxp has any replacement for this component?

i am just checking, if i would use a re-driver or a re-timer for an USB4 20Gb link...

Hi Hermann,

In general, when using it for USB3 & DP up to 10 Gbps only, we can propose to use the PTN37011.

If there is a need to support DP UHBR13.5/UHBR20, Thunderbolt and USB4 (from 10-20 Gbps range), then no, there is no replacement, unfortunately.

Best regards,

Tomas

Hello Hermann,

You might find useful the attached document. These are just general guidelines. Max insertion loss depends on the signal frequency and PCB material.

For example, refer to datasheet, if Flat gain is set to 0, you can see below that setting 0b1111 shows various EQ settings.  Depends on what application is targeted, if USB 5Gbps, then look at 2.5 GHz, if USB10 Gbps, then look at 5 GHz, if TBT/USB4@20 Gbps, then look at 10 GHz.

Best regards,

Tomas

PS: We are phasing out PTN38007/PTN38003A/PTN3816/PTN3944 family products. They are no longer recommended for new designs.

Dear NXP support team:

PTN38007 was designed in our old system, how to update?
Is there a replaceable chipset?

Best Regards.
