PCA9957 and PCA9959 Alternatives.

We are using PCA9957 (SPI) in our design and want to explore its direct alternative PCA9959. It looks like they are identical in pin packages and pin assignment except pin9/10 (Osc In/Out). Would PCA9959 will work as direct replacement for PCA9957 without using external oscillator?

Hello Pragnesh,

Indeed, both devices have the same package HVQFN40 but they are not pin to pin compatible as the PCA9959 device has oscillator pins among other differences such as LED output resolution (6-bit vs 8-bit resolution) and internal registers address and data.

If you would like to replace the PCA9957 device with the PCA9959 device, you may consider the information above.  In brief, software changes might be required.
