Hi there,

What is maximum VI (Input voltage) NXP 74LV08PW can guarantee?

In spec sheet, max Vcc is 5.5V but max VI is indicated “Vcc” (Page 4)

Versus this, I cross-checked TI SN74LV08PW spec sheet indicated max VI is 5.5V clearly, with 10.2.2 Detailed Design Procedure as Inputs are overvoltage tolerance allowing them to go as high as 5.5V at any valid Vcc,

TI guarantee max VI 5.5V whatever Vcc within 5.5V.

But I got no observation in NXP spec sheet.

In actual application, used condition is higher VI than Vcc, we need NXP to guarantee same condition as TI, but no application data or engineering document related to this subject. Please kindly help to advise, thanks.

Regards,

Philip

74LV08A is a different device, it does not have input clamp diodes on VCC. NXP does not have such device type. Concerning existing NXP 74LV08PW I answered in the previous post.

If you ok with VCC of 3.3V, possible option can be 74LVC08A, it is also tolerant with input high voltage levels regardless of actual VCC.

I believe specifications of NXP 74LV08PW and TI SN74LV08PW are pretty much the same. Both show recommended operating conditions for Vi from 0 to VCC, both assume absolute maximum ratings for Vi about -0.5V and VCC+0.5V. Exact absolute maximum rating for Vi is defined as VCC + Vcl, where Vcl is a voltage on the clamp diode at 20mA current, as mentioned above this is about 0.5V.

I think your statement about SN74LV08PW "...TI SN74LV08PW spec sheet indicated max VI is 5.5V clearly...as high as 5.5V at any valid Vcc, TI guarantee max VI 5.5V whatever Vcc within 5.5V..." is not correct, please check their datasheet once again.

Hi Bulat,

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I have made a mistake on TI P/N, it should be SN74LV08APWR, sorry about this.

Can you help to advise on my question again?

Philip
