By adding NFC to a door lock, the same smartcard technology that protects some of the world’s most valuable objects can now be brought to everyday places like homes, apartment buildings, and hotels. An NFC-enabled smartphone can be used to configure the lock, so homeowners can grant temporary access to a specific person or group. This hands-on session demonstrates how the latest NFC controller solution with customizable firmware, the PN7462, can be used for access applications. For the demonstration the PN7462 development kit will be used together with the software example to develop a door access application.

Virtual network functions offer a great deal of flexibility, allowing for dynamic provisioning of network services. Handling network services within a VM and meeting performance requirements can be challenging. It's essential to utilize specialized hardware accelerators to meet the desired performance targets. ODP/DPDK are becoming defacto standard for NFV abstracting the hardware accelerator interfaces from VNF applications. In order to leverage the data plane capability of underlying platform the hardware acceleration can be exposed to the VMs via proprietary interfaces through direct-assignment or standardized interfaces. In this session we discuss how we can leverage the hardware acceleration on QorIQ platforms for developing optimized virtual network functions with DPDK/ODP.

While many look for hypervisor based solutions when separating multiple operating systems running on multiple cores in the new embedded devices from NXP, an easier solution is often overlooked. This session will describe ARM TrustZone as a technology currently found in the ARM Cortex A family of the devices, but being introduced by ARM in other variants. A few use cases will be presented - these include secure gateway on a Layerscape LS1021 device, and an automotive instrument cluster on an i.MX6 dual core device.

Many embedded projects are in safety-critical applications, particularly within automotive applications. This session will take a look at the advantages of a functional safety-certified toolchain. Additionally, we will examine how some of the inherent dangers of C/C++ can be neutralized by adopting a coding standard and accompanying coding guidelines with static code analysis. We will draw inspiration from the MISRA rule set and from the requirements and recommendations of the ISO 26262 safety standard, and show numerous examples of what can go wrong.

As the Smart Home starts to gather momentum, a number of competing Wireless Communication standards are fighting for dominance. With ZigBee® now becoming dominant in the low-power networking market, there is no surprise that two new low power technology Thread and Bluetooth® Low Energy with the new Mesh capability are both trying to enter this market to get a piece of the cake. Moreover competing IoT platforms from the Thread Group (Google/Nest), Allseen Alliance (Qualcomm), Apple's Homekit, the Open Interconnect Consortium (Intel) and many others are creating even more confusion. So in this confusing array of Wireless Communication standards and Iot platforms, what are the main features of each and what does it means for NXP? This session will provide an overview of these Wireless connectivity standards and IoT platforms, their capabilities, and their implication for NXP IoT. Watch Video Presentation

With exponential growth in today's cloud data centers, the demand for data storage and security is exploding. Data deduplication combined with encryption is a requirement. This session will provide an overview of how NXP has developed an innovative solution using intelligent storage accelerators without having to throw expensive cores at it. The performance-per-watt and the total cost savings of this solution are formidable. This same approach has been taken in the next-generation Software Defined Storage (SDS) platform from NXP which not only solves the data dedupe and encryption problem but also the compression, RAID and traffic offload requirement of a complete scalable SDS solution.
