Hi NXP,
Does the host NFC of softpos require certification such as PCI, EMVCo, PBOC, etc?
Thank you.
Hello, This is NXP's Technical Support.
Thank you very much for writing.
EMVCo typically requires that the whole solution meets the standards. Theese refers to the NFC reader IC, MCU host, and the SW stack. But, it is the whole solution the one that has to pass the tests conducted by EMVCo. This is for the sake of ensuring that all the elements of the solution are secure and meet the standards.
Some of our ICs are precertified because the NFC front end can meet EMVCo's tests but, this doesn't mean that once you developed your solution, you don't have to perform these tests.
Hi Fabian_R,
Thank you for your reply.
Is there any difference between PN7160 and NPC300 in EMVCo and PCI? The softpos host installed with NPC300 does not require authentication and can be directly used for payment. Financial personnel informed that when using SoftPOS software, it is sufficient to call the relevant interface and meet the functional requirements without the need for financial certification. Can PN7160 also be used in this way?
Hello sir,
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of how the NPC300 is implemented, our support is limited to our NFC Reader portfolio which you can check here: https://www.nxp.com/products/rfid-nfc/nfc-hf/nfc-readers:NFC-READER
On the other hand, if a solution is developed based on PN7160 you may encounter some issues with the EMVCo since for this IC we don't provide any support for this certification. As mentioned, our recommendation is to develop based on PN5190 which is already pre-certified.
