Does anyone know when the i.MX RT1020 will be available?
i.MX RT1020: samples in Feb’18, production in Jun’18
Ok, thank you Joan. Then I will may order samples directly to NXP on Feb'18 ??, I want check it as soon as possible for all my new designs, to replace MK66 with i.MX RT1020.Do you know if may use also MCUExpresso to develop for RT1020 ?
I hope that product is available to order in most distributors, like Mouser, because currently to order MK66 its a big problem, product always out of stock, and with very high delivery times of 39 weeks.
yes should be use MCUExpresso. for detailed ording information, you need to contact local DFAE.
I got new information:
For i.MX RT1020, samples are available in March 2018 and production in June 2018.
Thanks Joan for the accurate information you provided...
Looking to the vendors sites, the i.MX RT1020 is now pre-orderable, under the following references:
- MIMXRT1021CAF4A for the LQFP100, and
- MIMXRT1021DAG5A for the LQFP144
Also, the corresponding Evaluation kit is annunced under the reference MIMXRT1020-EVK.
Is there any way now to have the related datasheet ? The EVK design files ?
Any news about the availability of samples, will be in early March or the end of the month?
I am really very interested in this powerful microcontroller, I want to make a small evaluation board with some samples to test it in my designs, probably to replace the Kinetis MK66 with the RT1020.
I also see that these are much cheaper than the Kinetis, being much more powerful.. Hopefully there is stock and it does not happen as with the Kinetis that are always out of stock.
When the I.MX RT1020 datasheet will be available?
And when the MIMXRT1020-EVK will be available also?
I've the same inquiries like Ari. Hope to get your reply soon.
We want to get the samples as well.

the latest update:
Alpha customers, what's that?
Checked in all these distributors and none offers it:
Also checked on the NXP website, there is no option to order samples of the RT1020.What distributors, already offer the RT1020, to ask for samples?, I do not know more distributors.
this is the distributor network, try to find your own location and ask for more detailed information.
I have already checked, in my location of that network of distributors, none offers the RT1020.
Is there no way that NXP can directly send me samples for testing?
Thanks so much for the updates...
In your mail below,
you stated that "for now, we shall work with NXP Sales Team" to get
documentation for i.MXRT1020. Please would you be so kind to send me the
contact information of that Sales Team ? Any document I may receive from
now on (Datasheet and others) will drastically emprove our product's

I don't have their phone number, you need to wait for updating in the official website, or contact local representative.
Thanks for your replay.
Our local provider here is
, and I've ordered some samples of i.MX RT1020 over there.
problem is, as you can see in their attachement above, they don't have
any datasheet for this processor. The only document they have for it is
the following, which is just flyer...
any way to have this datasheet internally in NXP ? I'm familiar with
signing NDA for such a case with NXP...

As I mentioned, the data sheet is availabel in June, pls wait for it or contact local DFAE to get more detailed information, we couldn't send unreleased version now.
Does the date (june 2018) given here above for the availability of the datasheet and other documents for the i.MX RT1020 stills valid ? Are you guys on target ?
Yes, the i.MX RT1020 will launch and be in production on June 26th.
In Mouser, the scheduled date for the TQFP100 (MIMXRT1021CAF4A, 400Mhz) to be available, is July 23, it seems a month later. The TQFP144 have an availability date even later January 2019. They TQFP100 and 144, 500Mhz, no expected date of availability.
Will it be like this in all the distributors, or will it be available before in others?.
And the datasheet for when will it be available? Will an evaluation board go on sale at the same time?
Thanks for the answer.
Would we expect receiving the
datasheet before the 26th June ? This will help us to accelerate our
What about the launching date of the related Evaluation Kit
MIMXRT1020-EVK and when will its Design Files be available ?
The datasheet, samples, evk design files and ability to purchase the MIMXRT1020-EVK will go live on June 26.
MIMXRT1020-EVK evaluation board already available for purchase in Mouser, but without data sheet, without user manual and without RT1020 chips available? https://www.mouser.es/ProductDetail/771-MIMXRT1020-EVK
Very strange, I want to order the evaluation board, but I also need several RT1020 LQFP100 chips and, of course, the Data Sheet and the User Manual of the evaluation board. How can I program the board, if there is no basic documentation available (data sheet and user manual)?
Today I received my RT1020 evaluation board, this board install a LQFP144. It seems that there is no hyperflash, only QSPI and SDRAM. I assume can only boot from SD or QSPI.
The SDK is now available from the RT1020 for MCUXpresso. I downloaded it and installed it, although the Peripheral Tools and graphic settings of the Clock are not available. A lot of examples of source code and documentation, seem good. The board only provides a micro USB cable, that's all. There is no software, there is no CD or DVD, there is a document of the Packing List, where it puts the link to the website nxp.com/MIMXRT1020EVKQSG, but it does not work, so at this moment there is no documentation on this board. I hope that on the 26th the Data Sheet, the Reference Manual and the User Manual of the evaluation board will be available.I wans start as soon as possible, to migrate all my developments with Kinetis and STM32, to RT1020.
Have you already tried to debug an example project, downloading the code directly into the qspi flash?
Not yet. As soon as I have some free time, I will read the User Manual to know how to upload the firmware to QSPI, and also to boot from the SD card.
But my main interest is how to load the firmware to QSPI or SD, without using Open SDA, because I want to develop my own board, with only the RT1020 chip, SD card and QSPI, no additional intermediary chip, as seen on the Evalution Boards (RT1020/1050), which adds a Kinetis chip to load the firmware.
I have already the Datasheet, Schematics and the Reference Manual for RT1020, but wait for the Flashloader tools. SDK is also available for MCUXpresso, but do not support yet Peripheral tools.
It seems that the RT1020 chip is now available to order (LQFP100 500Mhz), but only on Digikey, I ordered 10 units to test it and develop my new PCB, they will deliver them to me today by UPS. There are no free samples available on the NXP website.
I hope that it will soon be available also in Mouser (they announce it by the end of July), it is my preferred supplier for this type of product and, of course, the Chinese suppliers.
As for the SDK, it would be desirable, the sooner it support the Peripheral Tools, for me it is essential to configure the periphery, interrupts, DMA, etc ...
Just today, I received the 10 x RT1020 LQFP100 that I ordered from Digikey, very fast. I am ready to design my PCB for this powerful microcontroller, something easy with QSPI, SDIO, some leds for testing purposes and some additional chips and connectors for my LED screen application.
I hope that NXP will soon release a new version of the SDK with the Peripheral Tools for MCUXpresso, for me it is essential. Also I wait for the LQFP144, need it for some designs.
Time to migrate all my designs from Kinetis to RT1020.
I'm thinking of using the RT1020 instead of the STM32H7 in applications that do not need a high-performance ADC converter. But I do not understand why NXP did not made available any project examplos for the MIMXRT1020-EVK to be loaded directly into the external QSPI Flash. All the examples are for download and debug into the internal SRAM.
Most of the demo applications and driver examples that are included in the SDK for EVK-MIMXRT1020 have build configurations that target the QSPI. Are you using MCUXpresso IDE? You can import examples such as hello_world from the demo applications in the SDK which are targeted for the QSPI on the EVK.
Can any NXP representative tell me when they will add Peripheral Tools to the SDK?. Are essential for me to be able to make new developments. Without the Peripheral Tools it is very difficult to configure DMA, interrupts, SPI, etc ...
Any news about when the LQFP144 will be available?
Samples of the 144LQFP are available now with production in Dec 2018. Please contact your local distributor for samples.
what's the latest news of the 144LQFP package ? I want some samples right now !
Hello Fun Lee,
Which region are you located in? If you are located in China, please contact ZLG. They can get you i.MX RT1020 144LQFP samples.
Yes， I am in China, are you sure that ZLG has the 144 LQFP samples？ Any other distributor in China can help me ?
I checked with ZLG today, they only have 100LQFP， not 144LQFP at all, so, what should I do ? I am nervous.
Or, could you please directly mail some 144LQFP samples to me ?
We have samples today so let me put you in contact with our local team to get you samples.
Thank you very much ! How will your local team contact me ? send me email or call my cell phone ? or, can I contact them instead ? Thanks again.
No one contact me as of yet.....
Could you please give me a cell phone number in China such that I can get some 144 LQFP samples from there ? I wanna contact the REAL people with the REAL samples.
Gentleman, are you still there ?
My board is ready and just waiting for the 144 LQFP samples.......
