How to Recover a Bricked RT1050 EVK

Hello,

I was recently handed a "bricked" RT1050EVK board that we can no longer communicate with and I'm trying to fix it.

When the board is plugged in, the LEDs do not flash/toggle as I would expect with my RT1060EVK.  Instead, the red LED (D20) is solid on when the board is plugged in.  No other LEDs turn on, the board is not detected by the computer, and MCUXpresso doesn't recognize that it is even connected.

My suspicion is that the programming uP (LPC4322) needs to be reprogrammed.  Are there instructions and a binary on how to do this?

Hello Chadgraham,

You can find instructions on how to reload the OpenSDA bootloader on your board in the link below.

I hope that this information helps!

Regards,
Gustavo

Hello Gustavo,

Still having issues de-bricking the board.

  1. I realized that the board was handed to be being called a RT1050EVK, but it is in fact a RT1060EVK.  This isn't a problem in that I was able to locate the correct files.
  2. The guide references being able to drag and drop the file to program it, but my Windows 10 machine does not recognize that a device has been connected so I am unable to proceed.  Even adding a jumper to J42 doesn't allow the computer to detect the board.
  3. I have access to an LPC-Link 2, but it does not connect to the LPC4322 on the board.  I expected this to just work so I'm missing something.
  4. I found some guides that discuss how to unbrick a board.  (https://mcuoneclipse.com/2018/04/10/recovering-opensda-boards-with-windows-10/)  This too seems to rely on dragging and dropping the binary, but I can't access it with file manager so it too doesn't work.

What should be my next steps?

Hello Chadgraham,

I think the i.MXRT EVKs were not affected by that known issue with Windows 10 due to the OpenSDA revision they were loaded with.

If reloading OpenSDA didn’t help then I would recommend trying ro reload the LPC4322 as you suggested by using the LPCScrypt tool (link below).

https://www.nxp.com/design/microcontrollers-developer-resources/lpcscrypt-v2-1-2:LPCSCRYPT

My apologies for all the trouble. I hope that this information helps!

Regards,
Gustavo
