Hello,

It is mentioned that chipset has Cortex M7 inbuilt.

May I know if we can run a RTOS on Cortex M7 in parallel to Android 11 on Cortex A53 core?

We are looking for certain real time operations on IO lines (I2C, SPI, GPIO, PWM, ADC etc.).

Yes, it is possible to run a RTOS on the M7 core in parallel with Android 11 on the A53 core on the i.MX8MNano processor.

For example, the MCUXpresso SDK software with FreeRTOS OS inbuilt supports this feature:

Thank you very much for the response.

  • Will NXP support Android 11 up to 2024/25 i.e with With security patches and updates?
  • What is OS upgrade path forward plan from NXP on this chipset – is it up to Android 13/14?

The latest general release of the Android BSP by NXP is Android Q10.0.0_2.6.0 on Linux 5.4.70 kernel:

The current beta release of Android 11 is Android 11.0.0_1.0.0 (Linux 5.4.47 kernel).

The general Android 11 release is scheduled to the end of Q1 2021.

All Android BSP releases starting from Android M6.0.1_2.1.0 remain accessible on the NXP web site:

The further Android 12 version will be adapted shortly by NXP to i.MX family processors once Google releases it.
