VDDM voltage problem

Hi guys!

After some problems, I could finally assemble my i.MX233 board.

In the first test, however, it doesn't boot. The VDDM, connected to VDDIO_DRAM (as in the EVK) remains at zero Volts. When connected to USB, the PC "sees" the board, and the MfgTool shows "HID-Compliant Device", but it fails to upload the images.

The Debug UART shows the following:

"HTLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLFC

PowerPrep start initialize power...
Battery Voltage = 0.82V
No battery or bad battery detected!!!.Disabling battery voltage meHTLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLFC
PowerPrep start initialize power...
Battery Voltage = 0.82V
No battery or bad battery detected!!!.Disabling battery voltage me" and goes on.

I'm using the internal regulators and the 3.3V line is ok, as the 1.2V line. Only the 2,5V remains in zero Volts.

Am I missing something?

Thank you very much,

Marcellus Pereira

What is the medium (SD card, NAND) you are trying to boot your board from?

As Marek suggested, please take a look at mx23evk and mx23olinuxino support in mainline U-boot.

Did you find where the problem came from?

I got the same issue.

Can you try using mainline U-Boot 2014.01 and the mxsldr tool for the upload ?

That's the problem: I'm using the default images, from the MfgTool.exe subdirectories.

I realized that 2,5V power line must be "turned on" by software, inside the bootstrap. But I'm using the "default" bootstrap... and it seems to me that the problem is before this step.

I'm using the "USB Recovery Mode" to upload the images. The PC can "see" the board attached to USB port, the MfgTool.exe too.  But when I try to upload the files (using "MX23 Linux Update profile"), the board seems to "reset". I can heard the noise of "new usb device attached to PC" and the Debug Uart shows the message

"HTLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLFC

PowerPrep start initialize power...
Battery Voltage = 0.82V
No battery or bad battery detected!!!.Disabling battery voltage meHTLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLFC
PowerPrep start initialize power...
Battery Voltage = 0.82V
No battery or bad battery detected!!!.Disabling battery voltage me" and goes on.

It's really frustrating... :/

Do you know who am I? said:

Try default BSP. If the results are same, I think you need check hardware connection of BGA pins.

If the default image for our EVK board is used, it should be ok because the default image is for 2.5V DDR1. The VDDM output should be turned on by s/w and it will be done by the MfgTool with the correct image.

Please be reminded that the capacitance on VDDM should not be larger than 1uF because larger capacitance will need more time to charge it up and will cause boot failure then.
