Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) is an advanced processor microarchitecture feature that allows independent execution threads to more effectively utilize a superscalar CPU pipeline organization. SMT implementations in a 2-way superscalar pipeline maximize dual-thread concurrency with relatively little incremental dynamic power dissipation. This session focuses on the SMT capabilities included in the next-generation Power Architecture e200z9 processor core, and the improved performance/power metric achievable through this microarchitecture.

In this class, participants will learn how to leverage model-based design technology (MATLAB/Simulink) to more quickly develop motor control algorithms for BLDC, ACIM, and PMSM motors using Freescale MagniV MCUs on the S12ZVM automotive reference platform. Learn the basics of the motor control toolbox to generate C-code from simulation models. The toolbox will utilize and demonstrate peripheral driver blocks, optimized automotive math/motor control blocks, software and processor in the loop techniques for algorithm verification, and other utilities for MCU profiling and algorithm development.

In this session, we will first depict the revolutionary 2X faster go-to-market path to launch a device, then illustrate why MicroEJ for Kinetis helps to reduce the B.O.M cost of our customers. MicroEJ enables IoT innovation, reduces time to prototype and product, and also supports a dynamic Apps go-to-market strategy, by leveraging new capabilities such as ultra-fast simulation, prototyping, as well as product customization after deployment in the field driving larger market share for IoT OEMs. This session includes a large and comprehensive technical summary of MicroEJ for Kinetis components. The solution Kinetis+MicroEJ leverages the 10+ million software engineering community providing them a modern smartphone-like software factory for embedded systems to target fast moving markets such as building automation, white goods, healthcare, industrial control, wearables, automotive, consumer, etc.

Accelerometers, Magnetometers, Gyroscopes, Pressure Sensors. Gathering sensor data at 400 samples per second, on 9 axes, results in 700 MB of data per day. This hands-on class will show what information is contained in sensor data and how to reduce the amount of recorded data dramatically without any major loss of targeted information. They will then compare data between dumb and intelligent data loggers, and understand the techniques used to compress the information.

Linux is the state of the art software used to enable Freescale LS102x platforms. Freescale provides a custom SDK and a set of networking software build on top of Linux kernel. In order to improve customer performance, it needs a way to analyze the existing performance of the software and find ways to improve it. CodeWarrior IDE is a development environment targeted to debug and analyze Freescale platforms. Software analysis component from CodeWarrior help Freescale developers to analyze the performance of their code running on Linux on LS102x targets. Using CodeWarrior analysis tools, you are able to trace your system execution at multiple levels: system level, kernel level, and user level. Using CodeWarrior analysis tools, developers are able to easy configure, collect and analyze the trace. Performance profilers are available to show the performance of the analyzed system.

Android provides a powerful operating system and development environment that can be used to develop connected IoT products very quickly. It further allows developers build up feature-rich HMI solutions with multi-display capabilities, for example it allows dual full-HD HDMI operation on the DIGI ConnectCore 6 SOM. There is a risk that resulting embedded products are open to external attack or user modification. This presentation will discuss the key components of the Android operating system and show how to implement network-enabled embedded applications based on SE Android (Security Enhancements for Android), a completely open-source project that provides a sandboxed application runtime environment preventing unauthorized modification of devices and/or execution of potentially malicious code.

Automotive integrated circuits are requiring high temperature and high voltage application environments. High temperature and high voltage impose severe constraints on the design of IC interconnect and the materials used in the assembly and packaging processes. The use of fine gauge copper wire bonding has been growing very rapidly in consumer, portable, and industrial electronics. Freescale has made significant inroads in introducing and accelerating the adoption of fine gauge copper wire in the high reliability automotive space. The molding compounds were studied and reformulated to accommodate high voltage up to 65V. This presentation will discuss key learnings in copper wire bonding process and molding compound formulation development, and present an exciting update on Freescale strategy on gold to copper wire conversion.
