Installation of HCS08 CW5.1 and temporary files

I'm trying to install CW5.1 for HCS08, fresh downloaded from freescale.com, but I'm not successful, because of somehow strange behavior of the installer. Free space on my system disc is about 300MB (I'm installing program files to other disc), that's why I changed folder to save temporary files (I'm actually not sure if this is really what I think it is, because of poor description - just noted as "Location to save files", not very useful, indeed) from default "{system disc}:\Document and Settings\...\Temp\CodeWarrior for HC08 V5_1" to other disc with plenty of free space, for example "D:\". Then, after hitting "Next" button, installer doesn't care about my path setting and starts to save files to default path. Of course, it runs out of free space and installer emits error. Finished.

By the way, installing in this manner was absolutely correct with old CW3.0 - I found an old CD containing this version, so I installed it to be sure - changed path to extract files to "D:\", everything was OK, files extracted to "D:\" and then selected path to install product to other path, like "D:\CW3\" and everything was OK with my exhausted system disc.


So my question is, how to change path to extract the needed files somewhere else than just the default path, or better how to force the installer to accept my settings?

Hello

This is a side effect of MSI based installer.

We changed to MSI installer for V5.1 and the installer needs at least 700 Mb on C to install properly (as far as I know).

Hello, I don't meet this problem because I like minimal 1GB free on system disk but did you try to change TEMP (and TMP) variables settings in windows? (MyComputer-Properties-Advanced-Environment Variables)? If the installer works correctly in windows environment it should use this variables...

Just try (and let me know the result please)

Edit:
after changing environment variables and then restarting computer installer really changed path to save temporary files. Interesting that windows didn't emit information about need of restart to accept the settings of paths. After a long effort is my CW5.1 finally installed and working properly.
But I still think the first setting of installer - I mean setting path to extract files - is (at least) very confusing because in fact it doesn't care about what user wish and uses windows default TEMP path.

I changed TEMP and TMP variables to other local disc and installer still doesn't care about it, it is still trying to place files to "c:\Document and settings\...\Temp\CodeWarrior for HC08 V5_1", the same as before.
In my opinion, there is something wrong with the installer because it ignores the TEMP and TMP variables and even user's setting path directly from installation program as well - and thats' what is are those settings for (I meant to set path for temporary variables in windows environment, not to disregard :smileyhappy: ).
