When is a 32 Khz crystal/oscillator frequency preferred?

When and why is a 32 KHz crystal preferred,

instead of a traditional high frequency crystal of nn MHz?

It can be helpful for creating an accurate real-time clock if you don't need the higher speeds for anything critical.  Running at the lower 32Khz can also help save power.

I believe its mainly cost and size, rather than any technical advantage.
