MC56F87233 programming time - OnCE USB TAP

Hi everyone,

I'd like to know if the programming time I measure is correct.

With a BDM clock of 8333 kHz, while entering debug with a 33490 bytes program I get:

launching:    3 s
connecting:   5 s
downloading: 26 s

(CW MCU 10.7, Win7 64bit)

I'm a bit concerned of the downloading time. Is it a normal time? Can you suggest a way to reduce this time?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Alberto Spagnolo

Hi Alberto,

Just saw your question.  Yes debugging with download is a pain.

In the past I used a DSC with a built in bootloader and downloaded code over that and then ran the debugger without download and that process was much faster.

Unfortunately the 56F827xx series does not have a bootloader built in.

I am using the 56F82746 and plan on implementing the bootloader in AN4275 to get the same effect (also I want the bootloader for future code updates)

Hi Peter,

thanks for your feedback.

I agree, debugging with download is a pain and unfortunately my bootloader has to run at 9600 bps because of the application, so it's quite slow anyway.

I think that my best option is to get to the end of this project as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Alberto

Hi, Alberto,

From my experience, it is normal to download the code/data with 26s although I can not give the explanation.

Thank you for your feedback Xiangjun,

I was hoping to be doing something wrong. Debugging with such a programming time is quite painful...

Kind regards,
