All,

The goal is to have a wireless access point, so multiple devices can connect.  I've been looking around for USB dongles that have this feature, but as of yet have not found one.  Unless someone has one working?

Is there a board that can be attached for a wireless AP device? http://www.lsr.com/products/radio_modules/802.11_BGN_BT/tiwi-r2.aspx

Hi all,

I would like to reopen this thread. My question is about how to configure wifi in ap-mode. Is it enough with a correct kernel configuration or do we need some application like "hostapd" for setting up it?

Thank you,

Hello,

You should check the modules at http://www.redpinesignals.com

There are complete device server modules (Connect-io-n) line.

There are modules with Access Point software also provided.

What you need to do is to look for 'WiFi modules' with 'master mode' support in the chipset. AFAIK, most of the usb dongles are made from very basic/entry-level WiFi chipsets, which do not support 'master mode'. Look for ones which support SDIO/SPI interface, the ones which are 'Wireless AP SoC' may be easiest for you (yet the most expensive), offloading all wireless communication housekeeping tasks from CPU.
