Hi,

I followed this document Installing Ubuntu Rootfs on NXP i.MX6 boards for installing ubuntu in my custom imx6q Sabreauto board.Successfully flashed uboot, zimage,*dtb and rootfs in sdcard, but when i tried to boot upthe board it get stucks at one point. How can i fix this?

My debuglog is below:

Hello Richu,

Those errors are due to a bad partition, try to burn again the SD or try to make your partitions correctly.

Regards

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

These are the logs of creating partition and burning.

What change has to be done for fixing bad partition?

NB:I tried several times by formatting sd but the result is same (Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found.  Try passing init= option to kernel.) .Bio_TICFSLwenmingfeng

You are getting a lot of "omitting directory" warnings when copying the root filesystem to SD card. Try passing -a option to cp command:

sudo cp -a media/rootfs/* mountpoint/

Thank you  turker@dtsis.com for your valuable information.

I have some doubts

  • why i'm getting the  ERROR: v4l2 capture: slave not found?
  • Is ethernet is a must factor for target board .(NB:Our custom sabreauto board does not have ethernet )
  • Waited for hours but nothing happens after  these * Setting up X socket directories... [ OK ] Bio_TICFSLwenmingfengerikraynolds

  • I think ERROR: v4l2 capture: slave not found means there is no camera module on your board. It should not affect the boot process.
  • Ethernet should not be a necessity for boot.

Do you get anything on your screen during boot? That may provide a hint. Another option is to try with the newer versions of kernel and u-boot.

uboot-imx - i.MX U-Boot

i have tried with both imx4.14.98_2.0.0 & imx4.9.11.1 versions of kernel and uboot but the results are same. it still hang up after  * Setting up X socket directories... [ OK ] .

  1. why it gets stuck on that particular point?
  2. is this due to broken rootfs?
  3. Any updated documents for installing rootfs on imx?

Please help me to fix this issue.turker@dtsis.comwenmingfengi.MX ProcessorsBio_TICFSLtengrierikraynolds#

I have not tried Ubuntu on i.mx6 so I may not be able to be much of a help. Maybe check if you missed any of the steps mentioned in Installing Ubuntu Rootfs on NXP i.MX6 boards

Note that the steps given in the above link are for Ubuntu 14.04. If you are trying to setup Ubuntu 16.04 things may be different since the default init system has been changed from upstart to systemd. According to this link serial console configuration in etc/init/tty1.conf may be ignored by systemd. That may be the reason why you do not get any login prompt.

There is another guide in this link:

i.MX6q SABRE Board for Smart Devices - Linux on ARM - eewiki

Finally you can try to run prebuilt images released by 3rd parties. You may download a prebuilt image from one of the below links for example (do not forget to check the license agreement) and replace U-Boot, kernel and kernel modules with your own compiled versions and see if that works.

it has been solved our serial console was ttymxc3  rather than
exec /sbin/getty -L 115200 ttymxc0

Now I am able boot the target, in serial console and login as both richu and root, I am unable to login through the gui login manager.

How can I enable and run it form within HDMI monitor of target mx6qsabreauto rather than in serial console?
