We originally intended on using the LPC54018J2MET180 (2MB internal ROM) part in the product we're designing but we're having issues sourcing it. But we can source the LPC54018JET180 (ROMLess) and use external ROM.
We want to know if we can use the LPC54018JET180 part now with external ROM and then migrate to the LPC54018J2MET180 part in the future without changing the board.
We believe the LPC54018J2MET180 will be less expensive for us in the future when it's stocked as we then won't need the external ROM.
I suspect the answer is yes as the LPC540XX family page says "Compatibility within the LPC54000 series enables the LPC540xx MCU family to provide a seamless migration path for increasing processing power and adding the flexibility of additionally advanced peripherals."
However, I'm looking for some confirmation of these particular parts. It looks good to me but perhaps there's something I'm missing as we've not used parts from this family before.
