Hi! NXP Engineer

in my design, refer to NXP EVB(imx8m plus+LPDDR4+eMMC+RTL8211+TC358743+USB 2.0),

and only VPU is used, CPU volume is 20%,

but , when the hot stable state, SoC temperature rise is above 50℃, LPDDR4 is 46℃, eMMC is 40℃.

They are very high, and then how to calculate the power consumption of SoC/LPDDR4/eMMC .

For SoC/LPDDR4, the heatsink is neccessory?

Best Regards.

Hi @www1519,

I hope you are doing well.

The temperature of the IC is caused by its power consumption, but the power consumption cannot be calculated according to the temperature. The power consumption of a chip is the sum of all its power rails voltage (V) x current (I). For i.MX8MP, it has many power rails, such as VDD_ARM, VDD_SOC, NVCC_DRAM, NVCC_xxx, and so on. For LPDDR4, it has only 3 power rails, VDD1, VDD2 and VDDQ. For eMMC, it has 2 power rails, VCC and VCCQ.

One can refer to i.MX8M Plus power consumption Application Note which is a good example of how to estimate the system's power consumption.

Thanks & Regards,
