Boot iMX 8 with M7 core enabled

I am developing an application for the M7 core on an MIMX8ML8CVNKZAB. I will be using IAR IDE to develop the code and Segger J-Link Plus to connect to the target.

I understand I need to boot the A53 core first and then enable the M7 core.

Is it possible to enable the M7 core without loading an M7 application? I would like to use IAR to download the code to SRAM for debugging. Once the application is working I will figure out how to save it to an SD card for automatic booting.

My target board is a VAR-SOM-MX8M-PLUS. What information do I need to place in a device tree to enable the M7?
