Dear Sir or Madam,

Hello.

I have a question about audio noise issue with removing the SD card in i.MX6.

[Environment]

Board: i.MX6Q SABRE-SDP & Custom board

BSP: android 4.2.2_1.1.0

Appli: Music (Default included in Android)

Audio: Wav (96kHz_24bit_2ch)

*If you need the audio contents, I can send you it.

[Issue]

The noise occurs sometimes from SABRE's speaker when removing the SD card while playback the WAV file.

(Refer to attached noise sound : noise1.mp3)

The noise was find with high bitrate WAV files.

- 48kHz_24bit_2ch.wav --> The noise didn't occur

- 96kHz_16bit_2ch.wav --> The noise didn't occur

- 96kHz_24bit_2ch.wav --> The noise occurred some times

- 192kHz_24bit_2ch.wav --> The noise occurred some times

[Other]

- The noise didn't occur when removing the USB memory while playback the WAV file

- The noise didn't occur when removing the SD card while playback the other audio file (ex. mp3, WMA, FLAC, AAC)

[Try&Test]

- My customer tested the software mute technique by detection of removing the SD card.

But, the mute technique wasn't in time for the occurrence of the noise.

[Question]

Could you fix this issue asap?

(Customer's system is using big volume for audio play. So, the noise gives us unpleasantness feelings.)

(And, now customer's is production phase.)

Best Regards,

15-Jan-2015

Keita

Hi Karina,

I update about noise issue rate.

The noise issue reproduced by latest android BSP (KK4.4.2_1.0.0) on SABRE-SDP board, too.

[Result of Issue rate on i.MX6Q SABRE-SDP with KK4.4.2_1.0.0] (SCH-27392 Rev B3)

- 96kHz_24bit_2ch.wav : 5 per 20 times    //The highest issue rate

- 192kHz_24bit_2ch.wav : 0 pew 20 times    //Didn't hear the noise

[Result of Issue rate on i.MX6Q SABRE-SDP with KK4.4.2_1.0.0] (SCH-27392 Rev C2)

- 96kHz_24bit_2ch.wav : 6 per 30 times    //The highest issue rate

[Result of Issue rate on i.MX6DL SABRE-SDP with KK4.4.2_1.0.0] (SCH-27417 Rev C1)

- 96kHz_24bit_2ch.wav : 1 per 30 times    //Issue rate was very low

[Result of Issue rate on i.MX6Q SABRE-SDP in JB4.2.2_1.1.0] (SCH-27392 Rev B3)

- 96kHz_24bit_2ch.wav:  3 per 10 times

- 192kHz_24bit_2ch.wav:  2 per 10 times

[Other]

- No SD card dependence

- No boot source dependence (SD or eMMC)

- No android version dependence (JB4.2.2 and KK4.4.2)

- No schematic version dependence

- It is easy for i.MX6Q SABRE-SDP to reproduce this problem more than the i.MX6DL SABRE-SDP.

Hi,Keita Nagashima

The noise means there should be error data read from the media, when the SD remove from the device while reading data, there should be debounce time, the error data should be read during that time, I will talk to RD if the SD read has workaround about this case. By the way, please upload a test wav in case our test usage.

best regards

Jack
