Hi,
Are there any NXP (Wi-Fi) connectivity chips that support/comply to the Wi-Fi EasyMesh standard (https://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-easymesh)? Is there a list available of these compatible modules?
Kind regards,
ac_gd
Dear customer,
NXP determined that EasyMesh doesn’t provide the functionality that our customers are looking for. As such, we’ve re-focused our efforts for providing Wi-Fi Mesh via the Batman stack. Please look out for the future release notes as to when this feature will be available.
Regards,
Olivier
Thank you for your reply.
I think you mean this stack? Is it then the goal to use/support the `ibss` interface mode as suggested on their documentation?
Is there a list of modules available where this should already be supported by the hardware(, but maybe not by software/drivers), or is there no hardware support yet either?
If we want to support this (Wi-Fi mesh) in our products for our customers in the future, we would like to make a future-proof hardware choice that will be able to support it later on (from the moment you support it in software).
Dear customer,
Yes, your link is correct.
For wifi module advice, we need more information on your requirements:
- Do you need wifi 4, 5 or 6 support ?
- Do you need high throughput ?
- Do you have strong price constraints ?
- Which host HW interface you need for wifi ? (PCIe/SDIO)
Regards,
Olivier
Dear @ac_gd
Based on your requirements (wifi 4, SDIO interface, no high throughput): IW416 (Wifi4), or 88W8987 (wifi 5) might be a good feet.
We currently have a demo implementation of BATMAN Mesh for 88W8997 chipset, but that one might be over qualified for your requirements.
We are planning to enable BATMAN Mesh on other devices and the next device targeted is IW416, but we do not have yet any target date.
Regards,
Olivier
