The demo of Ethernet bridge between M7 and A53 based GoldVIP platform of S32G399 didn't work

Dear NXP expert,

    I have tested the demo of  '13.9 Ethernet bridge between M7 and A53' in 'GoldVIP-S32G3-1.11.0-User-Manual.pdf', however it does't work, the whole operation process attached. Could you please give me some suggestions to fix the problem? Some other information: M7 is able to receive the ARP packets from A53 and send the response.

fdt rm /soc/pfe_slave@46000000/ethernet@104

Or modify the bootcmd environment variable of u-boot as the follows:

Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for your reply. In the last days, I have also tested the GoldVIP images on S32G274ardb2 by contrast. The 'Ethernet bridge between M7 and A53' demo only works on  the version of GoldVIP 1.8.0(pfe version 1.2.0 rc2, the normal dmesg attached below) in S32G2 platform, and all other versions failed including the newest 1.11.0. Unfortunately, I didn't find a GoldVIP version that works well on  S32G399ardb3 until now. Please let me know if you find the root cause, thanks!

When you implemented GoldVIP 1.11.0, which PFE version did you use? v1.2.0 rc2 or v1.3.0?

Can you help us understand which package versions are you using for GoldVIP 1.11.0?

Hi Daniel,
I changed nothing about the GoldVIP 1.11.0 images, just deploy the origin images that NXP released. The PFE version of GoldVIP 1.11.0 is 1.6.0 which is shown in dmesg logs. The PFE 1.2.0 rc2 is belonged to GoldVIP 1.8.0, which works well. And other GoldVIP versions, the 'Ethernet bridge between M7 and A53' demos are all abnormal. Could you please just help me to check the newest GoldVIP 1.11.0's 'Ethernet bridge between M7 and A53' demo, only using NXP's original released images? And clarify why the VLAN bridge communication between M7 and A53 didn't work as the manual showed.

Thanks for your feedback. Seems odd that you are seeing that the GoldVIP v1.11.0 PFE-FW version is v1.6.0, since the following is shown under the GoldVIP User Manual:

In which PFE-FW is v1.8.0 and PFE driver is v1.3.0. If you are seeing that the PFE versions are not the same as the ones shown under the GoldVIP UM, there seems to be a problem with the images. We understand that they were built manually, is this correct?

Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for your reply and I'm sorry for causing some misunderstandings between us. The PFE version I noted before is reading from the dmesgs of GoldVIP 1.11.0,  in which the whole message is ‘pfeng-slave 46000000.pfe_slave: Version: 1.6.0’, you can see more in the attachment. And the image of GoldVIP 1.11.0 was just download from NXP's 'Automotive Software Package Manager', I didn't rebuild it at all. I couldn't figure whether the version of  PFE firmware and the PFE driver is correct or not. Could you please just test the GoldVIP 1.11.0 on S32G3ardb3 with the images that NXP's official website released? I’m looking forward to your test results. If more information needed, please let me know.

Hi Daniel,

    Thank you so much for the reply, the above solution did work by modifiing the bootcmd env. However, I'd like to try the first method to change the boot.soure as a permanent method, could you please give me some advice on how to generate the boot.source and boot.src from u-boot source code ? And another questions are why the '/soc/pfe_slave@46000000/ethernet@104' should be removed from the fdt and what does the 'ethernet@104' mean in pfe_slave?

Hi,

We have received the following update:

U-boot.source is genereated by the patch file "sources/meta-alb/recipes-extended/imagebuilder/imagebuilder/0001-uboot-script-gen-Dynamically-compute-addr-and-size-w.patch".

I recommend modifying the kernel dts file for removing the ethernet@104: 

removing the following section in file:

&pfesl_hif0 {
status = "okay";
};

arch/arm64/boot/dts/freescale/s32g399a-rdb3-pfems.dts for s32g399ardb3, and 

arch/arm64/boot/dts/freescale/s32g274a-rdb2-pfems.dts for s32g274ardb2.

There are 5 ethernet interfaces based on PFE: pfe0sl, pfe1sl, pfe2sl, hif0sl and aux0sl. They represent different packet links respectively, a PFE flexibility features. pfe0sl, pfe1sl and pfe2sl send and receive packets from MAC0, MAC1 and MAC2 of PFE respectively, hif0sl sends and receive packet from HIF0 of PFE, aux0sl receives all remain packets. So if hif0sl exists, packets from HIF0 (The M7 host core sends these packets in GoldVIP) will be received by hif0sl; if hif0sl dosen't exist, those packets will be received by aux0sl. Another way to avoid hif0sl receiving packets is adding "nxp,pfeng-netif-mode-mgmt-only" property to dts node relating to hif0sl. In this way , hif0sl only receives management packets , currently the management packets only contain PTP message packets, other packets will be received by aux0sl.
