Is SC16IS interface reversible?

I am thinking to use SC16IS760 (Single UART with I2C/SPI interface) to connect between an MCU and a sensor device. The MCU has an UART port and the sensor I/O is I2C. Can SC16IS bridge these twos? I want to make a connection; MCU - (UART) - SC16IS760 - (I2C) - sensor. If it is available, could anyone please teach me a good example of driver software or an article? Thank you in advance.

Yes, you can use like that but we don't have official code for reference:

Thank you for your replying.

I understood that SC16IS7xx can be reversible but no official sample code. I am still confused that how to treat register ID and slave ID. So, can I expect that the protocol of the driver software between host (UART) and slave (I2C) is the same as similar product like SC18IM704? If no, could you tell me how to connect and use SC16IS7xx? Thank you in advance.
