Is there a timeline on when/if there will be an Apple silicon native version of MCUXpresso IDE?

Segger Embedded Studio has a native version for awhile now, and saw massive performance for build times:  https://blog.segger.com/segger-embedded-studio-on-apple-m1-and-intel-i7/

Yes, I have tested 11.8 as native Apple Silicon. It does work and is noticeably faster on compile time vs. the Intel version running in Rosetta.

Is there any update on this, does 11.8.0 work on Apple Silicon?

I will just add this as anecdotal benchmarking.

My previous machine: iMac 5k Intel i9 3.6GHz 10-core, 72GB RAM, Big Sur 11.2.3

Running a clean and build on my current project in MCUXpresso 11.7.0 took 162 seconds

I just upgraded to: Mac Studio M2 Ultra, 64GB RAM, Ventura 13.6

Running clean and build on the same code base in MCUXpresso 11.8.0 (Apple Silicon) took 53 seconds

Thanks for posting that Jack. As you correctly stated, native Apple silicon support is there from version 11.8.0.

Hi Jack,

We use the Arm GCC compiler, and that is not yet available as a native Apple silicon executable. We did include an update Java Runtime executable (Termurin), which is intended to enable native execution for Eclipse, in MCUXpresso 11.7.0, which was released today. I'm afraid I dont have any kind of benchmarks to compare at this point, but we would be interested in what you see.

Hello @jackking

As far as I know, there is no such plan at present.
