You did not mention that what your RTC configuration. Actually MKE04 has no backup power domain and requires the processor to remain powered in a very low leakage state, usually using a low power 32Khz oscillator rather than crystal. That is to say you need to use a low leakage mode instead of power off to keep the processor powered that will keep the RTC data.
