Can FRDM-K64F be powered from the P5V_USB pin(J3 -pin10)?

Hi,

I want to power the FRDM-K64F from a shield, and I was wondering if the P5V_USB can be used to power the board.

It seems to work fine, however I was wondering if there any disadvantages to use the P5V_USB pin instead of the P5-9V_Vin pin?

Best regards

Anders

Hello Anders,

There is no major disadvantage. Here I would just be careful and make sure you are not exceeding 5V if you choose to use the P5V_USB. Checking the schematic I noticed that VREGIN can receive this voltage and in the datasheet it states that it can stand up to 5.5V. If you need this in your application just be mindful as it is dangerous to work in the limit of the specifications.

Best Regards,

Sabina
