Undetected USB cable message while using DEMOEM kit with MCF51EM256

I'm using Windows XP(SP3). Installed code warrior 5.9.0 to have a real time debug for DEMOEM kit with MCF51EM256 daughter card. I connected the DEMOEM kit with High Speed USB 2.0 cable. I encountered an error message  "Undetected. Disconnect/connect USB cable. Click refresh List.(FAQ #29)" while trying to connect USB HCS08/HCS12/CFV1 Multilink - USB Port. I followed the instructions in FAQ #29 hyperlink and installed latest version P&E Hardware Interface Drivers Version 10. But, it didn't help me out. Can anybody tell me, what steps I'm missing to debug my code in DEMOEM kit.

I encountered the same in Windows 7 too...

Please help me out..

Thanks in advance..

We've had problems with "USB 2" cables that really aren't, causing debug problems.

Just because it has a stamp or moulding on it doesn't mean it works. There's lots of cheap and bad cables out there.

Try as many different cables as you can find. Look for any cables that came with "quality" or branded products.

If you do find below-spec USB cables that cause you problems, don't keep them, they'll only give you grief later.

Thanks Tom...

Can I get any specs for USB cable required for interfacing DEMOEM kit with PC?

USB2.0. Simple as that.

Too bad you can't tell the cheap ones that lie to you by looking at them.

You tell by plugging a bunch of cables in and seeing which ones work and which ones don't.

Have you tried that yet? It might solve your problem. If it doesn't your problem is something else.

If you want to pay $20 for a cable from a good shop, like this then it is probably a good one:

Pay $1.00 for a cable on eBay, and it might not work so well.
