MC9S08QE128 ... BDM through serial?

Hi, I'm new using BDM. I want to know if I can connect the BDM to PC using a Serial to USB cable, like this:

MC9S08QE128 (4 pins)    <<------- wire ------->>   3.3V to +/-15V Level translator (Serial)    <<<-------- Serial to USB Cable -------->>>   PC (Host)

Where "3.3V to +/-15V Level translator (Serial)" is a MAX3232/MAX232 configured for 1 wire communication.

An interfase similar to MonitorROM.

Thanks

I remember working some years ago with S12's GC32 and programming and debugging through serial port (with a preinstalled bootloader), back in the day I knew nothing about Freescale MCUs and wasn't surprising, but now I think that was an awesome feature, can something similar be made for S08 or CFV1 devices ? I think it can be done, but I'm no expert.

Hello and welcome to the fora AFVR,

If you make a connection like this it will not be BDM. The only access to the BDM is through the BKGD pin with the proper protocol. You can make a connection as descibed through the SCI though and use a serial bootloader. Refer to AN2295.
