Hi,

I'm a new comer of FS's HCS08 seriers MCU and I entercounter a problem of how to use the pin of EXTAL and XTAL.

My questions is:

I want to use an external clock signal as the clock input of HCS08DZ60, the clock signal will be connected to the pin EXTAL, So I want to know how to process the pin XTAL, is it should be connected directely to GND or just floated?

Hope can get help from you.

Hello and welcome to the fora, maoer.

You connect your oscillator to EXTAL and leave XTAL unconnected.

Hello,

The datasheet for the 'DZ60 is a little vague on this issue.  It is implied that the MCGC2_EREFS bit must be set to 1 for using a crystal (i.e. requiring both EXTAL and XTAL pin allocations).  However, with the control bit set to 0 (the default value), and suitable for use with an external oscillator, it is possible that the XTAL pin may be available as a GPIO pin (PTG1).

This is true for some of the other HCS08 devices, but for the DZ60 it seems not explicitly mentioned.

Regards,

Mac
