into GitHub - Freescale/linux-fslc: Linux kernel source tree  I do not see any linux-imx branch for kernel 5.x. Will there be in the near future linux-imx branchs for kernel 5.x similarly as the branchs which exist for linux-fscl  ?

Thank you gusarambula

Finally I found my answer here:

http://freescale.github.io/doc/release-notes/2.4/FSLCommunityBSPReleaseNotes-view.pdf

linux-fslc: Linux kernel based on mainline kernel used by FSL Community BSP in order to provide support for some backported features and fixes

linux-fslc-imx: Linux kernel based on NXP 4.1.15-1.2.0 GA release, used by FSL CommunityBSP in order to provide support for i.MX based platforms and include official Linux kernelstable updates, backported features and fixes coming from the vendors, kernel community orFSL Community itself

linux-imx: Linux Kernel provided and supported by NXP with focus on i.MX Family Ref-erence Boards. It includes support for many IPs such as GPU, VPU and IPU.

Hello,

Does anyone have an answer?

We are currently working on branch like 4.9-2.3.x-imx. We add specific video chips into /drivers/media/platform/mxc.

Today we see that the linux 5.x branches are for "mainline" kernel where the IPU management seems to be on /drivers/staging/media/imx.

Anyone can tell us if the linux-imx we are using today will be available in a near future for 5.x?

More generally, anyone can explain why there are 2 different kernels?

Hello Axel Lagrange,

The following thread may be of use. There are two kernels, one of the Community BSP which is part of the Yocto Project, and a BSP Release Kernel, which is the one provided by NXP with support for their boards.

https://community.nxp.com/thread/528810

I hope that this helps!

to be more accurate the linux-imx branchs I am talking are the kernels where the IPU management is done into drivers/media/platform/mxc (like on 4.9-2.3.x-imx branch). The linux-fscl kernels seems to be "mainline" kernels

Hello Axel Lagrange,

There are some kernel 5.x branches created already for the Community BSP, albeit in different development stages as for example:

https://github.com/Freescale/linux-fslc/tree/5.4.x%2Bfslc

If you are looking for the repositories of the i.MX BSP Releases those would be on the following repositories, with support for Kernel 5.x available sometime soon (we do not have a public date available as of today).

https://source.codeaurora.org/external/imx/linux-imx/

I hope this helps.
