distro backend for headless device

I am planning on building a headless embedded device.

I need gstreamer as I will be doing camera capture but I do have a display.

Normally I would use xwayland or frambuffer as a backend but because this is headless I am wondering if one of the other distro's without a windowing backend might be a better choice? What would be a better selection? Do these more "minimal" distros still support gstreamer?

Hello David,

Gstreamer is part of Multimedia plugins package, you need any multimedia backend to star to work with it, or you can have it in core-image-minimal but you will have to add all the resources they need.

This post doesn't really answer my distro question. Do we really need wayland, weston, etc. to run a headless hardware? Could you please specify the recommended distro configuration?
