i.MX28 DDR length matching discrepancy between AN4215 and EVK

I have a i.MX28 design in layout right now, and the layout engineer imported the EVK layout to start with the DDR routing. On the EVK, the WE, RAS, CAS, CE0, and ODT signals are mismatched by up to 670 mils. AN4215 states these signals should be matched to within 200 mils. Should we modify the known good layout to match AN4215, or is it overly conservative?

Hello Matt Young,

Application Note 4215 was released after the design of the i.MX28 EVK and it is conservative to make sure that the design is robust. Ideally you should strive for fulfilling all the recommendations but there is some leeway. I wouldn’t go as much as 670 mils though. I would recommend that you stay close to 200 mils.

I hope this helps!

Regards,
