iMX8M Power Consumption

Hi

We have reviewed AN12118.pdf "i.MX 8M Quad Power Consumption Measurement" and tried measuring the power consumption on the EVK main power input.

Deep sleep scenarios figures stated in the application note, are lower by around 0.5W compared to EVK power input.

In deep sleep, all the board should enter low power mode and seems that something consumes the delta we measure.

What should we expect to measure in the deep sleep scenario on EVK input?

Thanks

Oded

Hi Oded

main power input current is not correct way, please use sect.3.6. Measuring points on the EVK platform

AN12118 and AN5381 Measuring Current in i.MX Applications

https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/application-note/AN5381.pdf

Differencies in measurements can be explained by temperature and manufacturing process variations as

described in AN5215 B.2. Die process variation:
Variations in die-to-die processing results in devices with a range of power consumptions. These variations cause two individual parts that are manufactured identically behave differently... as shown on the bottom histogram in Figure 5.

Igor hi,

The power consumption stated in AN12118 is for part of the SOC rails.
What is the power consumption when measuring at the PMIC 3.3V input power in deep sleep?

We are looking for the total power consumption of the SOC  + PMIC + LPDDR4 3GB in deep sleep mode.

Will appreciate a detailed response.

Thanks in advance

Oded

Hi Oded

power consumption when measuring at the PMIC 3.3V input power is not

available. Right, AN12118 describes power consumption of SOC rails only.

Since PMIC provides power also for other peripheral chips, which configuration

may vary in customer designs, there is no much sense to measure its power consumption.

Best regards
igor
