McuXpresso Import SDK Errors for Kinetis KL27

I have just installed all the latest McuXpresso tools and the config utility.  Following the instructions to import the SDK from the mcuxpresso SDK builder; (lets use the FRDM-KL27Z for example), the attached exception is thrown.

If i get as far as being able to import a project from the SDK board, compiling sucessfully is also not possible. Often the project creation wizard remains with a greyed out Next/Finish button after selecting the target.

Whats the secret to getting the factory tools to actually work?
