i.MX 8M DMA Support for Cortex-M4

Greetings,

In the i.MX6 and i.MX7 processors the SDMA controller is a shared peripheral between the Cortex-A and Cortex-M processors; but Linux is essentially crippled without DMA; so the Cortex-M effectively can never use DMA while using Linux.

In the i.MX 8M block diagram it shows 2x SDMA controllers. Will it be possible to have one of these available for the Cortex-M processor; or will Linux demand both of them?

Many thanks,

 - Malcolm

Unfortunately we are not able to talk details about the i.MX8M since it is not release yet, and can be subject to changes, but at the moment, I can said that both SDMA are not intended for the M4.

Merry Christmas
