CodeWarrior version for MCF5484

I have just found these two threads

https://community.nxp.com/message/863322
https://community.nxp.com/message/447430

stating that no version later than 10.3 can be used with ColdFire MCF5484.

Is this still the case with the release of version 11?

I am looking at options for debugging on this processor on a bespoke board, and therefore concerned about the (possible) lack of future support.  The hardware is a product line that will continue indefinitely, with probably occasional software updates.  So although MCF5484 is "Not Recommended for New Design" it will be used for a good while yet, and needs to be supported by any tools we use.

Hi Giles,

The CWv10.6 and the newest version CW v11 all support this chip :

Hi Alice,

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think it is really addressing the issue.

CW 11 certainly says it supports ColdFire MCF5484, and so did CW 10.7 which I downloaded and installed shortly before CW 11 was released.  And I could create a project for the MCF5484, using PEmicro debugger.  I could even Connect to the target and look at memory.  But I was not able to Attach nor ever get symbolic debugging going properly.  On trying to Attach I kept getting the error:

Failed to resume target process.

Bad arguments passed to function

Searching for these in the NXP community found the two posts I reference above, which have replies saying that the problem is due to a bug introduced at CW 10.4.  So, as suggested, I download and installed CW 10.3 and then debugging just worked with no problems.

So my original question is not whether I can create a MCF5484 project in CW 11, but rather whether there is still a bug that stops it being of any use.  I could download it and try, but surely someone at NXP should know?

It  is concerning that (before CW 11 was released), the product page for the MCF548x linked to CW 10.7 as a suitable (if not recommended) development tool, when it was known that it did not work properly with the MCF548x.  Does not look very professional.

Regards, Giles
