How do I login to my i.MX6ULL evk board?

Hello,

I just bought this board recently and I've compiled the kernel for the first time ever because I wanted to use Debian on my board, so I followed the instructions found here Install Debian 8 Jessie Rootfs on NXP i.MX6ULL EVK board

I compiled u-boot and the kernel without any problems. And I used release 17.02 instead of using the one listed in the instructions (16.04 if I'm not mistaken) because for some reason it was downloading about 10 times slower than the one I used.

I was able t do everything correctly and I can and I can see "Debian GNU/Linux 8 linaro-alip ttymxc0 " after booting everything but when it tries to autologin with root it sends an authentication failure. It tries 3 times and after that I get the following text.

"fec 2188000.ethernet eth1: Link is Up - 100Mbps/Full - flow control rx/tx
random: nonblocking pool is initialized"

Obviously the first is telling me that if is up (I even tried sshing into my board), but the last line is a mistery to me.

Obs: I tried the following passwords: "root",   "linaro",     "",     "debian" and none of them worked.

Just in case you need it, I'll post the entire debug message I got from the serial port. But I guess that the only thing I'm missing is a password. OBS: I was getting an error when unpacking rootfs (simply said an error occurred even though the content unpacked was the same as the one in the tar ball), so I tried unpacking without the -v flag and then I noticed many errors due to not having the permissions so I chmod 777 it. That and the newer version of the rootfs are the only things I modified. I'm using mint on a VM to compile everything

Nevermind. The problem was in the distro I was using. I thought that since Mint was based on Debian (or Ubuntu ... don't recall now) then it wouldn't be a problem. But still...today I downloaded and installed ubuntu and did the steps for the rootfs again and everything worked perfectly.

You can login without password.

You need to add "--autologin root" parameter

into the line with "respawn:/sbin/getty" option in /etc/inittab.

But I can't login to change the file. I tried editing the file in the rootfs folder, but as I'm using mint (I think it's because of this) I didn't get a /etc/inittab file ... as of now I'm searching for a way to do the "--autologin root" this on mint and then reflash  to the SD card.

Aside from that, any other suggestions?
