We are developing a new appliance to measure liquid level in a diesel fuel tanks. Sensor  MPX5010DP seems be suitable for such purpose.

In data sheet is stated that sensor can be used in a dry air media, but also says that is intended for liquid level.

Our question is: Can we use this sensor to measure diesel fuel level?

Sensor is not exposed to diesel but senses level using a pipe.

Media is dry air with some volatile organic gases.

Please indicate us if can we expect success in our intended appliance.

Hi,

For all NXP standard pressure sensor products, any environment other than dry air, will have some impact on the reliability and lifetime of the product. NXP’s silicon pressure sensors are NOT compatible with oil, gas, petrol and water or water vapors, or chemicals.

In general, our pressure sensors were designed and are warranted for use in clean dry air only.

We offer an application note that mentions the media compatibility for our pressure sensors. We mention liquid media but is not really recommend it, but with some adjustments (air column) might be suitable for your application, even though we can't really guarantee it

Also I'd recommend to use the MPVZ5010 series instead because this other parts come with an special gel, which is media resistant

Regards,

Dario
