I'm planning on using the MMA8452 to detect engine operation on a recreational vehicle by observing the vibration from the engine. If vibration is detected for a sustained period of time, the engine would be considered running. I would like to use the transient interrupt, as it appears to be more sensitive in my testing. My concern is that if the engine is idling and the vibration is constant, the constant vibration may be filtered out using the transient detection? The accelerometer could be mounted at varying orientations.
Would transient or motion detection be more appropriate for this application?
